Transitional Open-Concept Kitchen and Coffee Bar on Colony Road

Project Overview

A mom and daughter who loved living together but felt their home was working against them. Dark, cramped, and cut off by walls. The entry made them uneasy because they couldn't see who was coming in before the door was already open.

That was the starting point.

The walls separating the kitchen, dining, and living spaces came down first. The whole main level opened up into one bright, flowing space filled with natural light and layered with additional lighting throughout. Sightlines now reach all the way to the front entry. They can see exactly who's coming in before they ever reach the door.

The L-shaped cabinet layout was demoed and rebuilt symmetrically, giving the kitchen the clean, connected feel they always wanted. We created a combined butler's pantry and laundry that keeps daily life running smoothly. A coffee bar turned what used to be a forgotten corner into a spot they actually look forward to every morning.

The dining area opened up for proper entertaining, finished with freshly painted French doors. The living room fireplace was rebuilt from chunky painted brick into a smooth, modern surround that finally feels intentional.

Today the home is safe, bright, and a real reflection of who they are. A place they are proud to live in and proud to share.

"Having had the opportunity to work with [you] turned out to be the best decision my daughter and I could have ever made. This company is just amazing. From start to finish they could not have been more professional, knowledgeable, helpful and overall the most kind and caring people, every one of them. They were here every day on time and did superb work. I just can’t say enough about how wonderful they are and they will be doing more work for us again soon as we keep adding things! It was a sad day when their sign came down as they have become like family to us. Their workmanship is total perfection and they completed the job on time and everything was perfect."

Challenges & Solutions

Challenge:

Creating a Flush Ceiling Between Kitchen and Living RoomWe were hoping to remove the walls and create a flush ceiling from the kitchen to the living room without any drop.

Solution:

Once we opened the wall, we assessed the framing and worked with the engineer, who recommended a 16” LVL beam. We installed it from the edge near the front door to the opposite exterior wall, which allowed us to achieve a completely flush ceiling across the space.

Challenge:

Dealing with a Crooked Exterior Wall Behind the BacksplashThe existing exterior wall was slightly crooked, which caused the backsplash to look uneven during installation.

Solution:

To fix it, we added thicker shims behind the backsplash tile, allowing the surface to flow smoothly and giving the wall a clean, finished look.
