Contemporary Spa-Inspired Bathroom Design in Lake Norman

Project Overview

For this master bathroom, the homeowners came to us with a space that simply didn’t work for how they lived: a large tub that was rarely used, a cramped shower that felt like an afterthought, and a vanity that lacked both presence and practical storage. They were ready for a space that felt intentional, where it was modern, luxurious, and above all, functional.

We approached this renovation through the lens of intuitive design, creating a space that not only looks beautiful but anticipates the rhythms of daily life. The new layout replaces the oversized tub with an expansive walk-in shower, creating a true focal point where bold stone, warm brass fixtures, and built-in niches combine form and function.

The vanity section was reconceived with the same thoughtfulness. Floating cabinetry in warm wood tones now grounds the space while adding hidden storage and visual lightness. Every drawer, surface, and detail is there to serve the homeowners with no wasted space, no decorative excess. Dual mirrors with integrated lighting, elegant hardware, and natural materials create a sense of calm and balance.

Throughout the project, we were focused not just on aesthetics, but on solving problems and optimizing every square inch and elevating the experience of the room. The result is a master bathroom that finally reflects not only the homeowners' style, but also how they live.

“We didn’t realize how much we were missing until now: having this beautiful, open shower where the old tub used to be has completely transformed how we experience the space.”

Challenges & Solutions

Challenge:

This master bathroom in Cornelius, NC had plenty of square footage, but the layout didn’t serve the homeowners’ needs. A large, built-in tub dominated the room but was hardly ever used, while the shower was small and closed off, so far from the spa-like experience they wanted in a space they use every day.

Solution:

We reimagined the layout by asking the homeowners' the right questions, getting to know their priorities, which included removing the oversized tub to make way for a spacious, walk-in shower that’s now the centerpiece of the room. This master bath remodel now delivers on both form and function. It’s a thoughtful, intuitive space that feels elevated, current, and completely custom to the way they live.

Challenge:

The original design included an arched glass panel for the shower, a detail intended to introduce a soft, architectural curve into the space. However, once the tile installation was complete, the homeowners realized that the clean, modern lines throughout the bathroom would be better served by a straight-edged glass enclosure.

Solution:

We adapted quickly, coordinating with our fabricators to ensure a precise fit, with a result that has a refined, contemporary look that feels cohesive with the rest of the space, demonstrating a perfect example of responsive design done right.
