A French Modern Kitchen in the Heart of Sheffield Park
Project Overview
This project was about finally making the kitchen feel like it belonged to the rest of the home. The original layout was closed off from the living room, dark, and disconnected. The client wanted open concept, a fresh new feeling, an island, and everything working the way it should. Warm, timeless, vintage, and French modern were the words that guided every decision.
The wall between the kitchen and living room came down first, opening the whole main level up the way it was always meant to feel. The window that once looked out to the backyard was replaced with a sliding door, bringing the outside in and giving the space a connection to the yard it never had before. The old back door was replaced with a tall window that floods the space with light without the traffic.
Inside, the laundry doors got new hardware and were painted to blend seamlessly into the walls. The pantry door was replaced with a wooden and glass pocket door that adds character without taking up space.
Every detail came back to the same goal: a kitchen that feels open, warm, and like it was designed for how this family actually lives.
"This kitchen is so open! I love spending time with my son here in the mornings."

Challenges & Solutions
Challenge:
Patching an Existing Window to Create a New LayoutTo achieve the kitchen layout we were going for, we needed to remove an existing window.
Solution:
After removing the window, we also took out the surrounding brick to ensure a clean tie-in. We patched the area and once it was painted, it looked like the window had never been there.
Challenge:
Rotted Floor Joists Discovered During DemoDuring demo, we discovered several areas where the floor framing had rotted away.
Solution:
During framing, we removed the affected joists and subfloor and replaced them, giving us a solid structure to build on and ensuring long-term durability.
