Delft-Inspired Kitchen Remodel in the Heart of Piper Glen

Project Overview

When we first stepped into this Piper Glen home, the kitchen felt like a box that was closed off and quiet, just a room where meals were made. But the homeowners wanted more. They envisioned a kitchen that felt alive, a space where music, history, and connection could all come together.

To bring that vision to life, we removed the wall that divided the kitchen from the rest of the home. Suddenly, the piano could be heard throughout the house, and conversations flowed naturally from room to room. The home itself felt transformed that now designed to bring people together.

But design is never just about new finishes; it’s about legacy. These homeowners had Delft pieces passed down for generations, and we made sure their story was showcased. A dedicated bar was designed to highlight the collection, complete with one-of-a-kind hardware. Subtle Delft-inspired touches were sprinkled throughout the kitchen, creating a cohesive and personal design that felt entirely their own.

Every detail in this Charlotte kitchen remodel was intentional. Every choice reflected the homeowners’ lifestyle and history. The result is a kitchen that doesn’t just follow trends but also creates a timeless, meaningful space for living, gathering, and building memories.

"I cannot say enough good things about our experience with DGK for our complete kitchen remodel here in Charlotte. From initial design through final completion, their turn-key approach exceeded every expectation. DGK listened closely, refined our vision, and delivered a design that was even better than what we could have imagined. DGK’s turn-key approach made the process enjoyable, stress-free, and an investment that was worth every penny."

Challenges & Solutions

Challenge:

In the room connected to the kitchen, the homeowners had a grand piano that was not only central to their family life but also far too large to move without risking damage or disabling it. Protecting such a valuable and sentimental piece during a full kitchen renovation required extra care and creativity.

Solution:

Instead of attempting to relocate the piano, we built a protective strategy around it. Our team carefully wrapped it in a durable plastic barrier and sealed it securely to the floor at two points, creating a dust-tight enclosure throughout construction. This allowed work to continue seamlessly while keeping the piano safe. When the project was complete and the barrier removed, the piano was in excellent condition, needing nothing more than a quick dusting before being ready to play again.

Challenge:

The entryway from the front door into the kitchen featured soaring ceilings, which made it impossible to install a standard plastic barrier wall. A barrier tall enough (nearly 20 feet) would have been extremely difficult to seal correctly, and any small gap at the edges could have allowed dust to spread throughout the home.

Solution:

To protect the rest of the house, our team engineered a custom solution. We built a temporary frame tall enough to create a walk-through passage, then carefully wrapped and sealed it with heavy-duty plastic. This innovative setup minimized dust from traveling into the adjoining living room while still allowing the homeowners safe and convenient access during construction.
